Two Hundred Years Gone

.

Lost like some are

that would wish to fly

on mad and terrible dreams.

Lost like those who starve themselves

of sleep, plunge into

the unscouted depths.

 

 

Nature’s seductive hymn

 

takes your mind past

 

the lonely void

 

to where your signature forms,

 

and your voice hatches out of spring

 

like the primrose and the daffodil.

 

 

Lost like time is lost

to the very old and very young.

Lost like the original light,

that weaves in the hearts of some

to help the rest of us survive.
