Bio:

Born: October 28, 1966

Grew up in Montreal, Spain, Toronto

Lives now:  in Toronto, Canada with my family: husband/soulmate – singer/songwriter/author/cartoonist Kyp Harness http://kypharness.net/ (married 1995), our two children, Ava and Clay, and animal family. (Please scroll down to the bottom to see links to Kyp Harness’ music, fictional books, comic strip, and Laurel & Hardy and Charlie Chaplin books).

Sculpting in clay for 23 years. My mentor/teacher was Elizabeth Fraser Williamson who passed away over a decade ago at the age of 87. My primary focus is sculpting people’s faces. (Please scroll down to the bottom to see links to Elizabeth Fraser Williamson’s poetry/sculpture book and two documentaries about her).

Writers/poets/philosophers/musicians/artists/people who have inspired me: Rainer Maria Rilke, Dostoyevsky, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Dylan Thomas, Theodore Roethke, Sylvia Plath, James Baldwin, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Thomas Hardy, Kyp Harness, Van Morrison, Homer, Euripides, Pablo Neruda, Homer, Mozart’s The Requiem, Yoko Ono, Rodin, Van Gough, Elizabeth Fraser Williamson, Joni Mitchell, Jane Goodall, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Bela Bartok, Kate Bush.

Spiritual beliefs: Follower of Jesus. No church. No religion. Just the Gospels. “The Message” by Eugene H. Peterson. Vegetarian since I was 13 years old-  don’t believe in killing or the causing of unnecessary pain/torture to any living being. In 2014 I changed to a vegan diet in order to embrace a more compassionate lifestyle and because I am an environmentalist;  http://www.cowspiracy.com/facts/

I took a 15 year hiatus from the poetry publishing world in order to raise my children. My nine books, two collections and chapbook all published in 2012 are the result of the writing I continued to do during that time.

I am a full member of the League of Canadian Poets since 2014.

I have been nominated five times for Sundress Publications “Best of the Net” 2015/2017/2018.

In 2020, my work was translated into Chinese and published “Rendition of International Poetry Quarterly Vol 98”, and in “Poetry Hall issue 7”.

Collaborating with Allison Grayhurst on the lyrics, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter/musician Diane Barbarash has transformed eight of my poems into songs, creating a full album. “River – Songs from the poetry of Allison Grayhurst”, released October 2017.

The SCULPTURES of ELIZABETH FRASER WILLIAMSON (27 minutes)This 27 minute film shows a wide selection of Elizabeth’s work. It features her sculptures in clay, wood, concrete and stone.

Brilliantly filmed in-the-round, the sculptures are shown in exquisite detail, revealing their profound aesthetic quality and the masterful technique of this outstanding Canadian sculptor.

From the artist:“Once in a while I will chance upon a stone – a stone of such dignity and self-containment that one’s immediate response is of awe and respect. Here lies a boulder, ground and crushed by glaciers; aeons old; beautiful; invincible; gaining in stoniness and character with each battle – a king among stones.”
– Elizabeth Fraser Williamson

PATHWAY FROM WITHIN (20 minutes)At first glance, this film appears to be about how one of Canada’s foremost sculptors works in stone, concrete and clay. But it imparts much more than that; it allows the viewer an unique opportunity to share that which is most elusive in art – that moment of inspiration emanating from the wellspring of creativity.

Review: “Intuitive rhythms dominate the sculpture of Elizabeth Fraser Williamson…she never loses touch with the essential soul of the subject.” – Gerry Moses, Art Critic.

  1. Heather Whitley Gibson – Middletown, Ohio – Heather Whitley Gibson, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, grew up in upstate New York. She has been writing poetry, and creating artwork all of her life. She did her undergraduate, and graduate work in Fine Arts and Art History with a strong emphasis in poetry and philosophy. Heather founded two of the top progressive art galleries in Cincinnati, Ohio which continue to have a solid influence on the art scene. She still promotes the Ohio Arts, and continues to exhibit her art, as well as writing poetry and song lyrics daily.
    Heather Whitley Gibson says:

  2. fiercebuddhist – Welcome. I am happy that our paths have crossed. Here you will find various poems, articles and photography. I hope that you enjoy them and visit often. I am currently working on writing “A Haiku A Day” so that I can, perhaps, have enough good ones for publication. If you are wondering what a “Fierce Buddhist” the following declaration should clarify. The “Fierce” in FierceBuddhist I define as “an obligation to do what I can to benefit all sentient beings, not just those close to me or those I agree with. If I see something or someone that is hurting others I must step forward and do what I can to assist them.” In the Army and in the dojo I learned how to defend myself, family and country but that does not mean I endorse the use of force. Two nonviolent examples of Fierce Buddhists that come to mind are Thich Nhat Hanh and the Dalai Lama. While I do not claim be even close to them I can strive and so can you. Furthermore, my Buddhist name, given to me by Sensei Kubose, is Seiyo. His interpretation of my communication and interaction with him led him to this name. He told me Seiyo means “Fierce Sun.” The sun shines on everyone without prejudices without giving preferential treatment to anyone. This is tough to live up to, as you can imagine, but it sure sets the tone for my life. In Buddhism this is called a Fierce Bodhisattva. I am only on the path to Enlightenment and can only say to be a Fierce Buddhist.
    fiercebuddhist says:

Pleasure to meet you. I look forward to reading more from you.

  3. dantrewear – ...trying to bring together poetry, a celebration of nature and humanity with all their imperfections and glory, an authentically human response to the christian gospel without triteness, and often a long, hard look at myself, with a southern-hemisphere flavour...
    dantrewear says:

“Follower of Jesus. No church. No religion. Just the Gospels.”
Wow. I’m not so conceited as to think I was the only one to believe this way, but thank you for laying it out plainly. It’s good to feel a little less alone.
    peace, –Dan

  4. David Eric Cummins – Wellsville, New York, USA – Who am I? I am a father, brother, son. I'm a punk rocker disguised as a nerdy bookworm (or maybe that's the other way around). I'm an artist with no single style. I'm a realist who believes in science. Most importantly- for this site anyway- I am a writer. I've written a three part blog-novel called HIGHER HELL which tells the story of a not-so-evil demon and his goth girl best friends' attempt to save the world from a not-so-good angel. I also have a poetry blog called "The Noise of Silence". Which ever of these you are looking at, I thank you for giving my words your precious time. I hope you enjoy : )
    David Eric Cummins says:

Hi, Allison. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. If you would like to continue passing the award along, the instructions are here http://wp.me/p24rMG-3Z
